Cop’s fine fight costly

The Courier-Mail - - NEWS -

A FORMER Queensland traffic cop has warned against contesting speeding fines after he was billed more than $6000 for a brief appearance in the Brisbane Magistrates Court.

Fraser Coast resident John Powley was clocked at 7km/h over the 60km/h speed limit on Boxing Day, 2015.

In contesting the fine, Mr Powley’s costs totalled $6098.

A police spokesman said Mr Powley was told he would be liable for costs if he was unsuccessful at trial. “The costs of the prosecution are sought in all instances where infringements deriving from cameradetected offences proceed to trial and the prosecution is successful,” the spokesman said.
