PHONE DE­LAYS – FIRMS FACE FINES TELE­PHONE com­pa­nies will be forced to pay cus­tomers for each day they fail to re­pair a faulty phone un­der tough new rules aimed at keep­ing com­pa­nies in line. The Fed­eral Govern­ment’s move pro­tects cus­tomers from ne­glect in the in­dus­try which was dereg­u­lated on July 1. From Jan­uary 1 next year, phone com­pa­nies face penal­ties of up to $20 a day for each day they fail to re­pair a phone up to a max­i­mum penalty of $25,000.
