Boxer up for new challenge as
PROFESSIONAL boxer Jarrett Owen has faced plenty of challengers, but his greatest challenge may be launching his own business.
Mr Owen has teamed with two other fitness professionals, former boxer Rob Heppell and ICN bikini pro contestant Sabrina Keira, to launch Brickhouse Gym at Coorparoo after three years of planning.
“Just as much blood, sweat and tears goes into launching a business as it does preparing for a fight in front of 40,000 people,” Mr Owen said.
“We are very results driven; you can’t get results with clients if they’re not showing up or they’re not sticking around.”
Mr Owen said he was confident the membership of about 120 would continue to rise as the business gained traction. He said more people were embracing a fit lifestyle and spending more on health and wellbeing. He said he
would not rule out further expansion down the track.
“At the moment we’re focused on our studio, and want to take the approach of everything we do, we do really well,” he said.
As well as traditional gym and training services, the business has also invested in activities such as rock climb- ing, paintball and fun runs. It echoes findings in the latest National Australia Bank monthly business survey, which found business conditions hit a 20-year high in October.
The business conditions index nationally rose from +14 index points in September to +21 in October, the highest level since the survey began. Queensland sat at +12. New South Wales had the best conditions with the index at +21. Meanwhile, the business confidence index remained steady at +8, although confidence in Queensland was the highest of all states, at +11.
NAB chief customer officer business and private bank Angela Mentis said the results showed there was optimism among businesses. “What (our customers are) telling us is they’re eager to expand, to invest in their businesses, and to bring new people on board,” she said. “We can see that optimism reflected in this record result, the strongest conditions in 20 years.”
