‘Rare golden chance’ for us to host 2032 Olympics

AUS­TRALIA has a rare golden op­por­tu­nity to host the Olympics for the third time if it goes ahead with a pro­posed bid to stage the 2032 Games, ac­cord­ing to Aus­tralian Olympic Com­mit­tee e (AOC) pres­i­dent t John Coates.

South­east Queens­land is now con­duct­ing a fea­si­bil­ity study y into whether to o pro­ceed with a Bris­bane-based bid bid, and d Mr Coates (pic­tured) said the tim­ing could be per­fect if it pro­ceeded. “There’s no doubt that we’ve got a great rep­u­ta­tion within the IOC,” he said. The de­ci­sion on who will host the 2032 Olympics won’t be made un­til 2025, so Aus­tralia still h has time to make u up its mind, alth though the wind dow is nar­row­ing a as In­done­sia, In In­dia and the Kore reas have exp pressed in­ter­est, so if Aus­tralia doesn’t d go for 2032, 2 it could be decades decad be­fore the Games re­turn to the south­ern hemi­sphere. “We need to be in po­si­tion to give it a tick in the next two years,” Mr Coates said.
