‘Rare golden chance’ for us to host 2032 Olympics
AUSTRALIA has a rare golden opportunity to host the Olympics for the third time if it goes ahead with a proposed bid to stage the 2032 Games, according to Australian Olympic Committee e (AOC) president t John Coates.
Southeast Queensland is now conducting a feasibility study y into whether to o proceed with a Brisbane-based bid bid, and d Mr Coates (pictured) said the timing could be perfect if it proceeded. “There’s no doubt that we’ve got a great reputation within the IOC,” he said. The decision on who will host the 2032 Olympics won’t be made until 2025, so Australia still h has time to make u up its mind, alth though the wind dow is narrowing a as Indonesia, In India and the Kore reas have exp pressed interest, so if Australia doesn’t d go for 2032, 2 it could be decades decad before the Games return to the southern hemisphere. “We need to be in position to give it a tick in the next two years,” Mr Coates said.
