Earth­quake wake-up

AF­TER­SHOCKS are be­ing felt from a 5.4 mag­ni­tude earth­quake in West­ern Aus­tralia’s south that rat­tled houses and woke peo­ple up more than 300km away in Perth.

It struck the Lake Muir area just af­ter 5am yes­ter­day and fol­lowed a 3.8 mag­ni­tude quake on Thurs­day night.

Geo­science Aus­tralia se­nior seis­mol­o­gist Johnathan Bath­gate said the epi­cen­tre was po­ten­tially dam­ag­ing, and the agency had re­ceived more than 2500 re­ports from the pub­lic who had felt it, with some say­ing it had caused cracks in build­ings.
