US rules out easy en­try

WASH­ING­TON: The Trump ad­min­is­tra­tion has is­sued a new rule aimed at restrict­ing asy­lum ap­pli­ca­tions at the USMex­ico bor­der by re­quir­ing peo­ple to make their claim at a point of en­try.

The new asy­lum rule was is­sued by the US Depart­ment of Home­land Se­cu­rity and the US Depart­ment of Jus­tice, which said it means peo­ple who en­ter the coun­try il­le­gally will be in­el­i­gi­ble for asy­lum.

The Pres­i­dent has the broad au­thor­ity to sus­pend or re­strict en­try into the US if he de­ter­mines it to be in the na­tional in­ter­est to do so, they said.

Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump is pre­par­ing to is­sue a procla­ma­tion to as­sert the pow­ers, and the rule changes were set to be for­mally pub­lished overnight, ad­min­is­tra­tion of­fi­cials said. The procla­ma­tion is ex­pected to be chal­lenged in the courts.
