Taipans fall as Breakers find a Spark

The Courier-Mail - - SPORT - JORDAN GERRANS

IT IS not even the middle of November but the Cairns Taipans are staring down the barrel of must-win games already.

Another sluggish start hurt the Snakes last night against the New Zealand Breakers, with the side belted 104-81 at Spark Arena in Auckland.

The loss sees the Far North Queensland club slump to 1-5.

It will face the NBL champions Melbourne United tomorrow on the road, which looms as a must-win to keep pace with the finals race.

Cairns’ current five-game losing skid is the first for the club since November 2013, when it lost seven in a row.

Import guard pairing DJ Newbill and Melo Trimble shouldered the entire offensive load, which is becoming an alltoo-familiar scenario, in the defeat. Trimble top-scored with 23, continuing to show he can score whenever he likes, but his offensive arsenal is not turning into wins for his new club.
