Trump seeks a warm welcome

The Daily Examiner - - WORLD NEWS -

DONALD Trump has urged British Prime Minister Theresa May to ensure he gets a warm welcome from the British people before he comes to the UK.

In a leaked secret tape of one of their conversations, the US President asks Ms May to “fix it” for him, The Sun reports.

A planned state visit has been postponed until next year.

His request came after two million people signed a petition calling for his proposed trip to be axed.

In the transcript, seen by senior diplomats, Mr Trump is reported to have said: “I haven’t had great coverage out there lately, Theresa.”

She replies awkwardly: “Well, you know what the British press are like.”

He then responds saying: “I still want to come, but I’m in no rush. So, if you can fix it for me, it would make things a lot easier. When I know I’m going to get a better reception, I’ll come and not before.”

Downing Street would not comment on the transcript.

NO RUSH: Donald Trump.
