$1¼M AL­LOT­TED FOR GRAFTON AU­TO­MATIC TELE­PHONE EX­CHANGE

A to­tal of $1,256,000 is be­ing al­lot­ted for the over­all project of pro­vid­ing Grafton with a new au­to­matic tele­phone ex­change, and the in­stal­la­tion is ex­pected to com­mence this fi­nan­cial year, Mr. Ian Robin­son, M.H.R. for Cow­per, an­nounced last night.

HIS­TOR­I­CAL SO­CI­ETY’S NEW HOME OPENED

Grafton’s new home for the Clarence River His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety, Scha­ef­fer House, was of­fi­cially opened by the mayor of Grafton. Ald. W. E. Crisp, yes­ter­day af­ter­noon, at a func­tion ar­ranged con­jointly by the His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety and the Grafton City Coun­cil. The mayor out­lined the his­tory of ne­go­ti­a­tions which had con­cluded with the city coun­cil ac­quir­ing the house for the his­tor­i­cal so­ci­ety.

CHAL­LENGE IS­SUED BY SOUTH GRAFTON FIRE BRI­GADE

The South Grafton Vol­un­teer Fire Bri­gade last night is­sued a chal­lenge to the Grafton Vol­un­teer Fire Bri­gade to a hose cart race at the Jacaranda Fes­ti­val grand fi­nale at the Grafton Show­ground, next Satur­day night.

The South Grafton team was an­nounced last night.
