THE Australian Dental Association NSW is reminding people living with diabetes to visit their dentist regularly as an integral part of managing their health. Diabetes is the fastest-growing chronic condition in Australia, with 280 people developing diabetes every day. Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory gum disease which leads to destruction of the bone supporting the teeth, and ultimately tooth loss. “If you’re living with diabetes, it’s important to see your dentist at least once a year because of the two-way relationship between diabetes and periodontal disease,” ADA NSW spokeswoman Dr Sarah Raphael said.
