NORTH

Pad­dle past the pedal-boat and row-boat pun­ters from the Lane Cove Boat­shed to ex­plore the scenic bush and shores of the river.

NA­TIONAL PARK

Audley Boat­shed, Royal Na­tional Park, 150 Audley Rd, Audley; daily 9am-5pm, one hour $20, au­d­ley­boat­shed.com View­ing the cliffs and bush of the Royal Na­tional Park from the Hack­ing River and Kan­ga­roo Creek is one of Syd­ney’s most scenic kayak­ing ex­pe­ri­ences. There are also some lovely pic­nic spots. His­toric Audley Boat­shed has been a Syd­ney in­sti­tu­tion since 1893 and it’s open ev­ery day of the year.

WEST

Pen­rith White­wa­ter Sta­dium, McCarthys Lane, Crane­brook; Septem­berJune, daily, times vary, three­hour half-day sam­pler $77, pen­rith­white­wa­ter.com.au The Pen­rith White­wa­ter Sta­dium may host the best pad­dlers in the world, but it also caters for begin­ners. There are be­gin­ner cour­ses that start in flat wa­ter then progress, teach­ing skills such as turn­ing, rolling and han­dling cur­rents.
