Gelato Tester

The Daily Telegraph (Sydney) - Best Weekend - - FRONT PAGE -

EVERY day as part of her role as a product development manager Filiz Kaya taste tests the latest flavours in the always-changing Gelatissimo range. The 41-year-old mother-of-two from Sydney’s west is responsible for developing the brand’s new flavour sensations. She says: The best part of my job is having the freedom to come up with ideas and later seeing people eating the gelato, it’s really satisfying. People are always asking me how I got such a great job. Even my children’s friends tell them, ‘You have the coolest mum!’ There’s lots of tasting involved, probably on a daily basis. There is no typical day for me, it changes a lot and could involve experimenting in a lab to going to food shows to see what’s new in the world of sweets. I get a kick out of making weird combinations of flavours work well together. One of my more unusual ones would be the limited release Coconut Ash. It combined coconut water and activated charcoal with raw cocoa beans and was an ash black colour.

Gelatissimo has a core range of more than 50 flavours and there are flavours of the month and promotions, so I’m always creating new ones. I can never really switch off, I’m always looking for new ideas. I feel really fortunate because I’m a foodie at heart, so I have been able to combine my passion for food with my job. I don’t think many people can say that.”
