Guests won’t enjoy their stay with you if they have a bad night’s sleep.

There’s no need to rush out and buy a new bed — unless you want to — but fresh new bed linen should be a given, says Tara.

“Make it as comfortable as you can,” she says. “You can buy a cheap doona from Ikea now and, rather than using old pillows, go out and buy new ones.”

Not everyone has a spare bedroom for guests so, if it’s a regular event for you, invest in a sofa bed or some blow-up mattresses with electric pumps from the camping shop.

“Blow up mattresses are practical because you can store them easily,” says Tara.
