The Daily Telegraph (Sydney) - Home - - FOCUS - More Secret Gardens of Sydney, secretgardens.com.au

There was a time when landscaping was an afterthought but director of Secret Gardens of Sydney, Matt Cantwell says now people often spend between five and 30 per cent of the value of their home on the garden (above).

He says getting detailed drawings done of your plans will give you the most accurate cost, but be realistic about what you want versus what you can afford. Gardens always benefit from good site preparation.

“People are always overdoing it on the garden plan without understanding what really completes the picture, which is the green element, making sure you have good soil preparation, good design so that you have the option of having good advanced plants.”

If you really want something, stick to it from the start because, Matt says, it always costs more to add in later.
