A cluttered bedroom isn’t doing you any favours, with a 2015 study published in the SLEEP journal revealing clutter junkies took longer to fall asleep, are more likely to suffer disturbed rest and are more tired in the daytime as a result.

If you need extra storage space, stylist Ashley Pratt from James Lane suggests investing in a new bed.

“You can start by choosing an ensemble with a storage base,” she says. “The traditional ones have drawers on either side but newer models have a pull-tab at the base so you can lift the whole mattress to store all your extra bedding and clothes out of sight.”

If this isn’t an option, Ashley recommends thinking about customising the joinery in your bedroom so you have space for everything you need to store or, more simply, getting hold of some inexpensive storage tubs and reorganising your wardrobe to free up extra space.
