THE GREAT ENTERTAINERS
If you’re having friends over during the colder months, a focal point in the room creates a sense of atmosphere. Not just for warmth, heating with real flames looks great too.
While traditional open fires lose up to 90 per cent of their heat up the chimney, real flame options vary from wood-fired combustion heaters to gas and, the newest kid on the block, bioethonal. Cocoon Fires (pictured) operate on bioethanol, a fuel produced from vegetable matter. Cocoon Fires managing director Anthony Hinchcliff says it produces a vibrant flame with a gentle radiant heat. “It’s a clean burning system with no need for a flue,” he says. “It will heat an average living room comfortably and it sits best in more intimate, cosy spaces.”
Real Flame sells both decorative fires and heaters for indoor living spaces which are powered by gas fireplace technology.
