A ware­house con­ver­sion would look just as out of place in Palm Beach as a beach shack would in Greenacre, so look to your neigh­bours be­fore fi­nal­is­ing the fa­cade.

“You have to take into ac­count the char­ac­ter of the neigh­bour­hood, but there’s some lat­i­tude,” Ju­lian says.

“It’s about how you can cre­ate in­ter­est and still be a good neigh­bour.”

Rather than mim­ick­ing the fa­cade of the street, take in­spi­ra­tion from it.

“You can be re­spect­ful in terms of height or colour but the form can be dif­fer­ent,” he says.
