Big things in furniture packages
The furniture bundle deal has come a long way with more flexibility and style at a great price, writes
Once reserved for 20-somethings moving out of home for the first time, furniture bundles used to be known for being inexpensive and, let’s face it, a little tasteless.
Bulk manufactured using low-cost materials and fabrics, they were perfect when setting up a share-house but frowned upon when it came to buying “grown up” furniture.
Now a new breed of retailers are bringing the package deal firmly into 2017 with stylish choices, designer finishes and an affordable price tag taking the stress out of furnishing your home.
“In the furniture industry, there is a shift towards sustainability and longevity,” says Nick Peters, national sales manager at Eat Furniture.
“To remain competitive, packages need to constantly evolve with trends in design, interiors and real estate as well as quality demands.”
A newcomer to the local market is Castlery — a Singapore-based online retailer with a showroom in Sydney specialising in bundles featuring designer pieces that can be mixed and matched.
“Although packages are generally more affordable (than buying pieces individually), it’s the expert level of curation that is now coming along with the designs that people are buying into,” says Castlery founder Declan Ee.
Declan says new homeowners make up the majority of customers looking for a furniture bundle as well as expats living in Australia for work. Often collaborating with emerging designers, he says the Castlery range is fresh and sophisticated with pre-designed bundles starting at around $1250 for the living room.
“Most of the time there isn’t much flexibility with package purchases but we wanted to change that,” says Declan.
Castlery buyers are able to customise each piece individually and order free fabric swatches from their website.
Another retailer entering the package deal market is Eat Furniture which delivers Australia-wide and offers three packages each including pieces for living, bedroom and dining spaces curated by professional interior designers.
Their main clientele are owners of investment properties but the retailer is also seeing a new type of client — owners and operators of short-stay properties such as those you find on Airbnb or Stayz.
