Taking a seat to fall in love again

I think I might be in love.

You know that moment when you lay your eyes on the love of your life for the first time and you realise that you were meant to be together. It happened to me recently. I can already see that we’re the perfect fit, and I’m enraptured by everything from my love’s sleek lines to the touch and feel.

The thought of spending hours together reading or watching a film in the evening fills me with joy.

Did I mention that my new love is a lounge chair?

If there’s a checklist for the ideal chair partner, this ticks so many boxes.

An Australian design, It has a swivel base reminiscent of ‘60s style and is finished in my latest colour obsession of the moment — deep sea green.

It’s also well made, it will last for years to come. I can even picture in my mind where it will live in my house.

There’s a lovely spot in my lounge room where it can sit under the window for reading in the afternoons but also next to the fireplace ready for when the nights finally cool down.

But there are barriers in the way of us not being together forever, most notably the cost.

With a price tag in excess of $2000 for one, albeit lovely, chair, it’s a hard buy to defend. Perhaps I could take the approach of pay-per-wear that I’ve adopted with my wardrobe in recent years where you can justify the cost of an expensive piece of clothing as long as you wear it frequently enough.

In this age of greater awareness of the cost of throwaway goods, surely that makes a good case for my dream chair.

Then again, what price should you put on love?
