CREATING THE PERFECT SPACE
If you want to get the most from your space, whether it’s the spare room or a nook in the corner, a customised design could be the way to go.
Spaceworks general manager Louella Woodham says her company (whose work is pictured above) specialises in designing and installing joinery, and home offices are an increasingly common request.
Purpose-built joinery can be a great solution where space is at a premium because it can be designed for maximum efficiency and ease of use.
“They want it to be comfortable, attractive, and sympathetic to the style and period of their home,” Louella says. “But clients also want to feel more organised, that everything has a place, and may be multifunctional if required, like a study nook, or combined with a media unit, or attached to a wardrobe in a child’s bedroom.”
Clients will often think ahead, she says, asking for more storage than they need right now with a view to expanding later on.
Streamlined designs where messy cabling is out of view and there’s a space for equipment like printers and shredders is also a common request.
“People want a functional, roomy desk, space to house a printer, cable management and storage of unsightly wires and mess, and enough lighting,” Louella says.
“Shelving for files, pencil drawers and suspension-file drawers, bookshelves, and cupboards to store paper or shredders, areas for a bin and pullout trays also rate highly.”
