45 charged over drugs

A GER­MAN na­tional was al­legedly caught with 396 ec­stasy pills at the week­end’s De­fqon. 1 mu­sic fes­ti­val.

Ju­lian Heldt, 22, was one of 45 peo­ple charged with drug of­fences at the event, which catered for 24,000 lovers of “harder styles”, at Pen­rith’s re­gatta cen­tre on Satur­day.

Heldt was charged with sup­ply pro­hib­ited drug and breach of bail, while an­other man with 200 pills and a woman car­ry­ing 87 pills were also charged. The sweep, us­ing drug dogs and a heavy po­lice pres­ence, re­sulted in eight peo­ple charged with drug sup­ply and 37 with pos­ses­sion.

There were also 450 ran­dom tests on driv­ers.
