Family ordeal rocks AFL superstar

The Daily Telegraph (Sydney) - - The Everest -

THE family of AFL superstar Gary Ablett was in mourning last night after the death of the footballer’s sister.

Details of the circumstances surrounding Ms Ablett’s death were not known but it’s understood she died alone at a property on Victoria’s Surf Coast. There were no suspicious circumstances.

Sister Alisha Ablett expressed her grief in an online post last night. “Natasha — you were the strongest women Iv (sic) ever known and an absolute heart of gold!’’

Ms Ablett had ongoing health battles and had been seeking treatment for schizophrenia.

It is understood to be a factor in Ablett’s desperate pleas to return to Geelong from the Gold Coast.

In and out of mental health facilities for years, Ms Ablett was found guilty of assaulting a woman in 2011.

Earlier this week, Ablett admitted that his priorities had shifted.

“I need to be around my family back home, who I have spent the last seven years doing long-distance with,’’ Ablett said.
