Miners won’t be giving up any time soon

The Daily Telegraph (Sydney) - - Saturday Extra -

So this time it’s Malabar Coal that has hopes of establishing a new mine in the Hunter Valley (“Miners dig deep for a new fight”, 13/10).

These miners remind me of those inflatable clowns that keep popping back up after you punch them.

Some wisdom from an engineer — the only reason the clown remains upright is because it has a low centre of gravity. Like a pyramid. And if you consider how long the Great Pyramids of Giza have been standing, well, you can expect these miners will be in it for long haul.

But that shouldn’t deter the horse breeders. My advice is to stay strong, stay resolute and stay vigilant. Never assume that those pesky miners won’t re-emerge with another “solution” to coexistence that involves grabbing more land. Caroline O’Brien, Bondi
