Guns are not for children
The last thing we need in this country is any relaxation to gun laws that would allow children to have licences (“Nats facing a high noon”, 13/10).
It’s all very well to say that if they are properly educated on the dangers it won’t be a problem, but the reality is they are just kids. And we all know kids are more likely than adults to act impulsively without any regard for the consequences.
We also know that bullying is a big problem in schools. If a child is trained in the use of firearms and gets bullied, how do we know they won’t take their gun to school and shoot the bully? Will their parents accept the murder rap on their behalf? Bernard Thompson, Cowra
