HOLLYWOOD megastar Russell Crowe has backed the political resurgence of failed NSW Labor premier Kristina Keneally after her announcement that she would contest the federal seat of Bennelong.

The Sydney-based actor took to Twitter to declare Ms Keneally was an “asset” who could eventually become a prime minister.

“You are an asset to this city and the country,” he said.

“Tireless, selfless, old school politician, progressive thinker it’s a good combo ... KK 4 PM down the track?”

Crowe, who sent the Tweet directly to Ms Keneally yesterday, has been critical of the Turnbull government’s handling of the Manus Island crisis, labelling it a “nation’s shame”.
