Pet names written in the stars

The Daily Telegraph (Sydney) - - News -

IT’S goodbye Fido and Fluffy as Aussie pet owners seek some cosmic inspiration when naming their furry friends.

A list of 2017’s top 10 dog and cat names compiled by Pet Insurance Australia has revealed the most popular moniker for canine and feline alike is Luna.

The traditional name Coco was also shared by both, one of six names on the two lists.

“A lot of names have changed this year, with the top spot being claimed by a name that didn’t even make the chart last year,” spokeswoman Nadia Crighton said.

Outside the top 10, pop culture had an effect on cat names with Thor and Marvel Universe character Loki narrowly missing out at No. 11.

“It’s wonderful to see so many new names making the list, and some old-school names like Frankie and Archie making a comeback,” Ms Crighton said.
