BUSINESS is booming for Natalie Akkari — and she puts it all down to being based in Western Sydney. A government report has found the region has one of the strongest annual population growth rates in the country at 2.08 per cent. Ms Akkari said that has been great news for her Montessori Merrylands childcare centre. “We have a constant base of continued families coming through,” she said. “By the time a child moves onto primary school then their new sibling comes along. There is always a demand for childcare in Western Sydney.” Ms Akkari said when she took over the childcare centre in 2010 it was struggling at just 20 per cent occupancy, but now it is fully stocked with 53 children. She put that growth was down to word-of-mouth referrals from delighted parents in the area. “We rarely do any advertising, ” she said.
