MATT JONES AND SHAYNE O’CASS LOOK AT TOMORROW’S MEETING
SO: Hello Matt. First things first, a big shout out and get well soon to our colleague and friend Brad Davidson who has broken his collarbone. Hope he’s fighting fit again very soon. Let’s tip some winners in his honour.
MJ: Like last week, Rosehill is a very open meeting and you could make a case for a number of runners in all races. There is no standout on the day. What are your thoughts on the 2yos?
SO: I am a big Charge man. He is a Zoustar with Waller and Qatar Bloodstock who raced Zoustar paid $450,000 for this horse.
MJ: I think the horse with a future is the stablemate Orcein who was impressive on debut. if I don’t back him tomorrow and he wins, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself.
SO: I know you spoke to Joe Cleary about Up Trumpz whom I reckon nearly should have won last start but I am pretty keen on Heliosphere despite the rail out and the fact that he will have to pass them all.
MJ: Joe made a good case but Star Sensation deserves another chance and she could be too tough for them.
SO: I understand the stars have aligned and we agree on one thing for the first time ever; Firsthand is your best and mine too. Team Hawkes might want to scratch now reading that.
MJ: One thing I do know is that Team Hawkes think 1400m is ideal for him at this stage of his career.
SO: The interesting runner in that race though is Maryore, Provincial Championship winner, new trainer, smashing trials but she’s 5s 0-0-0 first-up.
MJ: My interesting runner is New Universe in the same race. Let’s see which New Universe turns up. On ability he’s got them covered.
SO: I know you’re a cricket man, can Steve Smith’s horse Hogmanay cap off a great week for the Aussie captain?
MJ: Hogmanay isn’t showing enough to say he can win. I like the stablemate Carzoff.
SO: Fair enough, I am a Mornington man myself. Looks ready to win. At least we agree Waller wins the race. Good luck tomorrow.
