Holiday slip nearly cost an arm
TV host Lisa Wilkinson has revealed her fall while holidaying in Italy earlier this year almost ended with her arm being amputated. Wilkinson shared the frightening news during a sold-out Business Chicks Event at the Westin Hotel in Sydney yesterday. The guest speaker was being interviewed by her Channel 10 colleague Natarsha Belling and explained Italian doctors had mistreated her broken wrist after she slipped on the bathroom floor. “The doctors were very sweet but not very talented and they
put a cast on that cut off my circulation for four or five days,” she said. When Wilkinson returned home to Australia, local doctors told her she was within 24 hours of having her arm amputated. The 57-year-old told of how she was put in a full arm cast despite only breaking bones in her wrist and she was in tears of pain every day. “When they put the cast on I was so out of it because they aren’t big believers in painkillers in Italy, I’ve now discovered. So they manipulated my bones back into position without any pain relief,” Wilkinson said.
