All sympathies rooted out

The Daily Telegraph (Sydney) - - Letters -

Until the second Test had been won, I had been mildly sympathetic to the English team.

It seemed to me that the Aussies started the sledging war with the concerted attack on Jonny Bairstow and couldn’t handle it when the English returned serve to Steve Smith.

However, Joe Root showed no graciousness at all in his post-match interview with Jonathan Agnew.

He did not make a reference at all to the Australian team — there were no words of congratulations or even an acknowledgment that his team had been outplayed over the course of the two Test matches.

Just a sullen, dour analysis of where his team could get better. Adrian Hall, Miranda
