STAR ROYALLY DUPED ON PAY
ALREADY an acclaimed actor, her role in The Crown has made Claire Foy a household name in the UK.
But it emerged yesterday that she was paid less than her co-star Matt Smith, who played Prince Philip — even though he had far less screen time.
The makers of the Netflix drama admitted the pay gap at a TV conference in Jerusalem yesterday, claiming Smith earned more because he was better known when the series was cast. Smith became an international star after taking on the role of the 11th Doctor Who, whereas Foy, 33, had appeared in lesser known British dramas. Despite winning a Golden Globe for her depiction of the Queen, Foy was paid just £29,000 an episode.
