Young gun winemaker recognised
Winemaker Jen Pfeiffer, of Pfeiffer Wines, is thrilled and honoured to be named as one of the 2017 Young Guns of Wine.
Ms Pfeiffer recently made the awards Top 50 list of young winemakers.
“I’m thrilled because it’s a real honour to be recognised alongside Australia’s best winemakers,” she said.
The Top 50 list was determined earlier this month after a two-day tasting of multiple wines from 200 winemaker candidates.
Ms Pfeiffer was honoured to be nominated in the awards.
“An industry peer nominated me and encouraged me to do it,” she said.
“I was required to submit wines from my portfolio and they were assessed by a panel of judges.
“It was a great to be named and to be able to fly the flag for Rutherglen.
“The prestige is terrific and helps promote Pfeiffer wines and Rutherglen, which is such a great opportunity.”
The Top 12 finalists were named earlier this month and while Ms Pfeiffer was not selected, it has not diminished her spirit.
“I would be happy to have another crack at it and keep representing Rutherglen, which is a fantastic wine region with such great heritage,” Ms Pfeiffer said.
In 2012, Ms Pfeiffer launched her Naked Wines Jen Pfeiffer Rock it Like a Redhead brand.
“We were approached by an online wine retailer, Naked Wines, who wanted me to create my own range exclusively for them and that’s where the Jen Pfeiffer Rock it Like a Redhead brand was born,” Ms Pfeiffer said.
“It has been an amazing success story and a wonderful partnership.
“It’s been a great opportunity for me and I have thoroughly enjoyed it to date.”
The final trophy winners in the Young Gun of Wine Awards will be announced on June 20.
