Rutherglen Muscat Run
Under perfect sunny skies, the Rutherglen Muscat Run was run on the Sunday of the Winery Walkabout weekend.
The event attracted 143 runners, who were sent on their way by starters Phil Rogers and Ted Shanks. Matt Robbie was easily the first male home in the ten kilometre event in an excellent time of 37.06, and in a special finish for their first wedding anniversary, his wife, Amanda, in a new record time of 40.32 was the first female.
Veteran male and female were taken out by David Jefferies (47.51) and Tanya Buckingham (46.32) respectively.
The Super Vets weren’t left behind either, with John Backhouse (42.33) and Melinda Grigg (48.46) defying their age.
Liam Newland was the first male home in the three kilometre event in 12.16, and Monica Cowen took home the prize for first female in a time of 13.49.
Tess Palubiski blitzed the Under 16 female field to set a new record time of 11.57.
Tess has won this event for the past five years, improving her time each year.
Lucas Bladwell led the Under 16 boys in 11.21.
Nathan O’Malley had a great day out, being the first local home and also taking out the best dressed, along with Brett Chandler in their sumo suits.
He received two bottles of muscat and a cheque for his endeavours.
All winners over 18 picked up a nice bottle of Campbells Muscat and we are grateful to the Rutherglen Muscat Group for their support of this event.
