Nominations for new council

The Free Press (Corowa) - - NEWS - BY ROBERT MUIR

Nominations for the much anticipated inaugural election of councillors for Federation Council will open on Monday, July 31 and will close on Wednesday, August 9.

Elections will be held on Saturday, September 9. The result is expected to be known on Sunday, September 17 and announced on Monday, September 18.

Federation Council’s monthly September meeting is likely to be changed from the usual third Tuesday of the month to the last Tuesday, September 26.

This would ensure all elected councillors will be able to have sufficient notice and to attend the history-making council meeting, and will ensure council fulfils its election obligations.

Council meets tomorrow (Thursday, June 29) to confirm these arrangements. At the first meeting of the new council, a mayor will be voted on by the nine elected councillors.

Election advertising will commence from early July in conjunction with the NSW Electoral Commission and state-wide advertising.
