Finals fever takes over Karinya
Karinya House residents, staff and volunteers jumped on the AFL Grand Final bandwagon last Thursday ahead of the weekend’s clash between Richmond and Adelaide.
The aged care facility was a sea of yellow and black for Richmond supporters, as well as red, yellow and blue for Adelaide.
Jiggs Plunkett’s room is usually adorned with stuffed Tigers and some memorabilia but the Karinya resident ramped up the support for his beloved Tigers last Thursday when he was decked out in his team’s clothing from head to feet.
The 86-year-old reminisced playing for South Corowa in his heyday and was really hoping the Richmond Football Club would take out the grand final.
“They can do it, I know they can,” he told the Free Press.
“They have Dusty Martin and they all work as a team.”
His niece, Wahgunyah’s Margaret McNa- mara who volunteers at Karinya, was just as keen to see the Tigers bring home a win.
Margaret explained that her family were all mad Richmond supporters and her son and nephew were lucky enough to get tickets to the big game.
The Karinya residents enjoyed a day of all things football on Thursday and announced the winner of the in-house football tipping competition – Doug Perrin.
Doug finished on 137 tips while the runnerup with 132 points was Dick McCrum.
Margaret McNamara and Jiggs Plunkett were excited for last weekend’s AFL Grand Final.
