Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) is pleased to announce the Stepping On falls prevention program will return to Corowa on Thursday, October 19.

The group runs two hours each week for seven weeks followed by a refresher session two months later.

The free NSW Ministry of Health initiative is designed for people who are living at home and who have fallen or have a fear of falling.

“The program helps older people keep their independence and gives them confidence in their mobility so they are able to go about their daily activities safely and without the fear of falling,” Corowa Stepping On facilitator Cathy Crosthwaite said.

The program includes simple group exercise to improve strength and balance, as well as education on a range of topics such as vision, home hazards and medicines.

It is also an opportunity to socialise with other participants.

Stepping On has been rolled out in more than 25 communities across MLHD and was held in Corowa in April this year with 11 locals taking part.

Corowa Local Health Advisory Commit- tee Chairman Peter Wortman is pleased the program is returning to Corowa.

“It’s a great opportunity for older members of the community to come together socially, while also engaging with local health providers,” Mr Wortman said.

Falls are a significant cost to the community and the health system with one in three people aged over 65 falling each year.

The sessions will be held at HealthOne Corowa, 60 Guy St, Corowa at 10am.

For further information or to book, phone Cathy on 1800 016 396.
