Bush­fire dan­ger sea­son early

Due to un­sea­son­ably dry con­di­tions, the bush­fire dan­ger pe­riod will start two weeks early.

NSW Ru­ral Fire Ser­vice’s South­ern Border Team an­nounced the dan­ger pe­riod in Al­bury City, Greater Hume, Fed­er­a­tion, and Ber­ri­gan lo­cal gov­ern­ment ar­eas would com­mence on Oc­to­ber 16.

Any­one wish­ing to light a fire dur­ing the bush­fire dan­ger pe­riod must ob­tain a per­mit from www.pre­vent­bush­fires.com.au or their lo­cal per­mit is­sue of­fi­cer or fire con­trol cen­tre.

In­spec­tor Craig War­wick said per­mits en­sured that fire was used safely and min­imised dan­ger to land­hold­ers, their prop­erty and the com­mu­nity.
