by Council prior to a decision being made,” he said.

“Council has been extremely proactive and has actively challenged the previous options and models presented to the Council over the many years.

“In the latest feasibility report you will find a strong focus has been placed on the feasibility of an outdoor 50m pool, and program pool or indoor 25m complex as it is understood that these are the two most preferred options by the community.”

Mayor Bourke said Council is now calling for feedback on the feasibility report, available on Council’s website and at Council’s offices up until May 2.

“In consultation with the community and key stakeholder groups Council will continue to work as hard as it can to deliver a facility that is able to best meet the needs of many users and also taking into account something that is achievable from a capital expenditure point of view, being also mindful of ongoing operational costs,” he said.

“There is obviously a real balance between that, in terms of putting in elements to encourage more people into the pools, increasing your operational costs in some respects, but also then increasing your revenue from more visitors.”

Construction of a new Swimming Pool is hoped to be achieved by December 2019.

Council is aiming to make a decision on the preferred Swimming Pool option at the April 17 Council meeting and then place the preferred option on public exhibition for any further community feedback.

Mayor Bourke said Council will look to confirm the development option at the May Council meeting as this will ensure that Council meets the required construction timeframes.

“This new Council truly is a new Council, and I can assure the public, despite all the reports and options discussed previously and new options put to you tonight that no decision has been made as yet,” he said.

“We are genuinely doing one last piece of engagement work on this project to explain the exact status of where council is up to and provide residents with the opportunity to be a part of the decision making process.”

For further information and to view the feasibility report visit council’s website.
