Trackside excitement on Easter Saturday

The Free Press (Corowa) - - FRONT PAGE -

It’s time to roll the clock back.

It is 1959, a time of short pants and scrapped knees where kids didn’t come inside until the street lights came on.

Girls favoured Hula Hoops and Chatty Cathy. For boys, Hot Wheels and Mr Potato Head were all the rage.

But every kid knew that the wheel had been invented for only one reason, to make a billy cart.

This Easter Saturday, Corowa brings back the magic of yesteryear as kids and adults hold the reins to the flexible front axle, waiting for the “ready, set, go” to race their homemade or aerodynamic marvel down the main drag at the Corowa Australian Billy Cart Championships.

Scrutineering will take place from 9am with racing to kick off at 10.30 am and finals will be from 12pm.

Categories for this year’s event include Juniors (9 years and under), 10 – 13 Years, 14 – 17 Years, Open Class, 60 plus and the All Schools Team Challenge. Entries are now open. Competitors must adhere to the conditions of entry. Download an entry form, from the events website www. australianbillycartchampi
