In­ner Wheel Club’s in­au­gu­ral meet­ing

A new friend­ship group for Corowa held its in­au­gu­ral meet­ing on March 15 with an im­pres­sive 17 women join­ing the In­ner Wheel Club of Corowa Dis­trict.

Noreen Miller be­came the club’s first pres­i­dent and Mar­garet Playford was in­ducted as sec­re­tary, while Bar­bara Milne has ac­cepted the po­si­tion of trea­surer.

Corowa’s new club was made pos­si­ble by mem­bers of the Yar­ra­wonga-Mul­wala In­ner Wheel Club who are spon­sor­ing the club and are con­fi­dent the Corowa com­mu­nity will ben­e­fit.

Dis­trict Coun­cil­lor Dal­lice Robins said the Yar­ra­wonga-Mul­wala club held a cam­paign ear­lier this year to see who was in­ter­ested in form­ing a group in Corowa and was over­whelmed by the re­sponse.

“These women are all very en­thu­si­as­tic and are keen to start meet­ing and fundrais­ing,” she said.

“They are al­ready plan­ning a Mother’s Day fundraiser and dis­cus­sion around their char­ter night sug­gests there could be up to 150 peo­ple in at­ten­dance.”

Cur­rently there are 131 In­ner Wheel Clubs in Aus­tralia with more than 100,000 mem­bers around the world.

Res­i­dents in sur­round­ing towns like Ruther­glen and Wah­gun­yah are also wel­come to join.

With 3895 clubs in 103 coun­tries across the world, the pur­pose of the group is to raise money lo­cally, na­tion­ally and in­ter­na­tion­ally for causes while at the same time cel­e­brat­ing friend­ships and hav­ing fun.

In­ner Wheel Clubs and Dis­tricts help fund cord blood re­search with a na­tional ap­peal each year called ‘Coin for Cord’ day on April 27.

Clubs usu­ally fo­cus their fundrais­ing for this cause any­time dur­ing that month.

The In­ter­na­tional In­ner Wheel Pres­i­dents theme for this year is ‘Leav­ing a Last­ing Legacy’ chal­leng­ing all In­ner Wheel mem­bers to help oth­ers in need while en­joy­ing the friend­ship, mak­ing friends and mak­ing a dif­fer­ence.
