Inner Wheel Club’s inaugural meeting
A new friendship group for Corowa held its inaugural meeting on March 15 with an impressive 17 women joining the Inner Wheel Club of Corowa District.
Noreen Miller became the club’s first president and Margaret Playford was inducted as secretary, while Barbara Milne has accepted the position of treasurer.
Corowa’s new club was made possible by members of the Yarrawonga-Mulwala Inner Wheel Club who are sponsoring the club and are confident the Corowa community will benefit.
District Councillor Dallice Robins said the Yarrawonga-Mulwala club held a campaign earlier this year to see who was interested in forming a group in Corowa and was overwhelmed by the response.
“These women are all very enthusiastic and are keen to start meeting and fundraising,” she said.
“They are already planning a Mother’s Day fundraiser and discussion around their charter night suggests there could be up to 150 people in attendance.”
Currently there are 131 Inner Wheel Clubs in Australia with more than 100,000 members around the world.
Residents in surrounding towns like Rutherglen and Wahgunyah are also welcome to join.
With 3895 clubs in 103 countries across the world, the purpose of the group is to raise money locally, nationally and internationally for causes while at the same time celebrating friendships and having fun.
Inner Wheel Clubs and Districts help fund cord blood research with a national appeal each year called ‘Coin for Cord’ day on April 27.
Clubs usually focus their fundraising for this cause anytime during that month.
The International Inner Wheel Presidents theme for this year is ‘Leaving a Lasting Legacy’ challenging all Inner Wheel members to help others in need while enjoying the friendship, making friends and making a difference.
