Stronger Country Communities
Federation Council is calling for expressions of interest from sporting clubs, community groups and organisations who would like their infrastructure projects considered under round two of the Stronger Country Communities grant program.
The State Government program is now open and aims to deliver local infrastructure to improve the quality of life for people in regional NSW. Each local government area is provided with an allocation of funding for projects such as parks, community halls, sports facilities, playgrounds and amenity blocks.
Round one saw Federation Council receive just over $1 million in funding for toilet block improvements, a cycleway in Corowa and a new accessible cabin at the Urana Caravan Park.
Council is set to receive $3.6 million in round two, with a requirement to spend fifty percent of this allocation on sport and recreation infrastructure.
Local Councils are the only eligible applicants and must work with their communities to identify suitable projects.
This week council resolved to establish an expression of interest process and Mayor, Pat Bourke is encouraging the community to put forward suitable projects.
“We already have a good understanding of community priority projects after calling for applications for the Stronger Communities program last year, however this process allows us to ensure we’ve captured all possibilities,” the Mayor said.
Groups must submit their expression of interest to council by Monday 9 April, including all the necessary information that will support the preparation of the grant application.
“The timeframes are tight and the application process requires projects to be well devel- oped, so this will need to be considered when determining which projects council will submit,” said Mayor Bourke.
“The recent consultation process we’ve completed to prepare our Community Strategic Plan will also help to prioritise projects.”
Full applications close on Friday 4 May and it is expected that an announcement will be made by the NSW Government in August this year.
