Corowa Community Men’s Shed recently received a generous donation from Corowa Supa IGA to the tune of $1366.

The donation was made through the Supa IGA Community Chest program that has been running for more than ten years.

Corowa Supa IGA Owner Craig Waldron said every day the Corowa store and IGA’s across Australia were using the community chest program to raise funds to support local communities, charities and other worthwhile causes.

“When customers make a purchase of a product with an IGA Community Chest logo on the label, a percentage of that purchase goes into the fund,” Mr Waldron said.

“It’s a great program that gets local people shopping local.

“The money is going to a good cause and I am sure the Men’s Shed will make good use of it.”

IGA Community Chest and associated programs have raised more than $80 million for local community groups, not-for-profit organisations, charities and other worthy causes.

This money has assisted more than 7,000 worthwhile causes.

Corowa Men’s Shed President Lynn Fredericks said the funds would be used by the Men’s Shed with further support from Corowa Supa IGA to develop a worthy community project.

“This project is still under developmental stages and can’t be disclosed but be assured that it will be of great benefit to the whole community and the travelling public,” he said.

“When completed the project will provide a significant improvement to Corowa and its natural beauty.”

The Men’s Shed currently enjoys a membership of 27 men who have lately been working on projects using old wooden pallets.
