Corowa Skate Park users and supporters attended Federation Council’s monthly meeting on Tuesday to make a presentation and hand over a petition containing 2338 signatures.

Ryan James, a skate park user, thanked council for the opportunity to make the presentation of the Skate Park and BMX Track petition.

“Over a four-week period during February and March this year, a total of 1964 valid signatures were collected from across the community in support of the Skate Park and BMX Track remaining in John Street where they have always been and to ask that work start again on the skate bowl extension everyone has been working on for many years,” he told council.

Ryan said that in addition to the petition, there was also a second petition to present to council.

“Mathew Yates had an online petition on www.change.org for the same period as ours. He has asked that we present the 381 signatures from his petition with ours,” Ryan said.

“Both petitions have been checked for people who have signed each petition more than once and for those who may have signed both petitions.

“The total number was adjusted if this was found to be so.

“Together, the adjusted, combined number of signatures collected and presented to you today is 2338.

“We ask that you take these petitions and their signatures into account when making any decisions regarding the Corowa Skate Park and the Corowa BMX Track.”

Cr Fred Longmire endorsed the presentation made to council and reminded council of the importance of keeping the facility in its current location.

“That many signatures is pretty powerful, well done,” he said.

Cr Gail Law endorsed Cr Longmire’s remarks and said it would be a shame to have the Skate Park and BMX Track shifted to another area.
