High Coun­try Har­vest kicks off with Tweed Ride

Those in search of an ad­ven­ture through the glo­ri­ous lo­cal wine coun­try should look no fur­ther than the an­nual Ruther­glen Tweed Ride to be held on Satur­day, May 5.

The 20 kilo­me­tre cy­cling ad­ven­ture is in­ter­spersed with three in­cred­i­ble food and wine ex­pe­ri­ences.

Now in its eighth year, the Tweed Ride will be­gin at 10am and fea­ture bub­bles and brunch in­spired by wild food flavours at Ruther­glen Es­tates’ new Cel­lar Door, a pic­nic of lo­cal and for­aged pro­duce by The Pick­led Sis­ters Cafe with hand­crafted wines at Val­halla Wines, and a sweet and savoury af­ter­noon tea with Cor­rell and Mus­cat spritzers at Jones Win­ery.

All chaps, dandies and bon vi­vants are in­vited to join in a week­end of cy­cling rev­elry, divine food and vin­tage fash­ion.

At­ten­dees are en­cour­aged to em­brace the theme and step out in vin­tage style - tweed jack­ets, plaid skirts, bowler hats and retro bikes are all wel­come.

The Tweed Ride in Ruther­glen is part of the North East Vic­to­ria’s High Coun­try Har­vest, which runs from May 4 to 20 and in­volves a se­ries of events to suit all taste buds.

Among the events on May 4 is an even­ing of shi­raz.

Join Val­halla’s wine­maker An­ton for a light­hearted even­ing of shi­raz de­signed to dial up your senses.

Ever tasted wine blind­folded? Felt the tex­ture of the drink and smelt the bases of the flavours?

Ex­pe­ri­ence wine through a whole new lens – tune into its smell, feel and taste as An­ton guides you blind­folded through a bracket of shi­raz.

Ticket in­cludes a glass of (trust-build­ing) Val­halla sparkling shi­raz on ar­rival with a wan­der through the vine­yard, be­fore the blind­folds go on.

Those af­ter a truly im­mer­sive din­ing ex­pe­ri­ence can book a seat at The Ed­i­ble Ta­ble on May 4.

Get hands-on set­ting the scene, cre­at­ing a spec­tac­u­lar, in­ter­ac­tive ta­ble cen­tre­piece us­ing ed­i­ble herbs, plants and flow­ers, guided by florist and stylist Katie Mas­sari from Poppy Em­po­rium.

Cook with The Pick­led Sis­ters Cafe chef Ste­wart Gilchrist us­ing un­usual and de­light­ful flavours from na­ture.

Mix your own wine cock­tails with Cofield Wines flavoured by botan­i­cals to cre­ate unique and de­li­cious com­bi­na­tions. Fin­ish with lunch with your co-cre­ators. Other events in­clude Jones Camp­fire cook­ing, The Art of Har­vest, To Oak or not to Oak, Yoga: Bub­bles and Brekkie Bliss.
