Heat Howlong pool instead

The Free Press (Corowa) - - FRONT PAGE -

I have recently become aware of the news that the Federation Council has decided to proceed with the construction of a 50 metre outdoor swimming pool in Corowa.

Debate continues to rage regarding this option with a number of people believing that a 25 metre indoor heated pool is the best option.

What has disappointed me is that all arguments presented by both sides have looked at this from a Corowa town perspective only.

I believe it is imperative that both options exist for the use of residents.

Here is my proposal Firstly that council proceed with the construction of the 50 metre outdoor pool in Corowa.

Secondly that council then work towards covering and heating the Howlong 25 metre pool to provide the desired all year round facility.

The major benefits of this proposal should be obvious to most observers.

The reduced capital costs in getting such a facility up and running are obvious.

The reduced travel distance for both Corowa and Howlong residents, especially older residents are self-evident.

And also the current bus timetable is much more suitable for people travelling from Corowa to Howlong and return then it is for people travelling the reverse direction.

I think it is time for all concerned to look a little further than the Corowa town boundary and give my proposal serious consideration. Yours truly,

Mick Gardiner
