Wine tasting success

The Free Press (Corowa) - - FRONT PAGE -

It’s great to see organisers bask in yet another successful Winery Walkabout, with people from all walks of life and ages enjoying the festival for what it is – a chance to relax even dress up and enjoy fine food and wine while socialising with friends.

Despite the wet start, which local farmers no doubt welcomed, fine and sunny weather greeted more than 17,000 festivalgoers on both days.

The Winery Walkabout not only keeps Rutherglen on the tourism map, but it brings millions of dollars to the local economy each year.

Many tourists flock to the region for the event and stay for the weekend, with hotels and motels in the immediate area booked out months in advance.

Organisers say many Winery Walkabout patrons are repeat customers with more tickets added to the festival each year, proving just how much the wine festival is growing.

There were no doubt many wine lovers nursing a sore head the morning after the event, but most would have agreed it was worth it.
