The McGrath Foundation, created by Jane McGrath, was established to help support women all over the country who have been touched by breast cancer.

The foundation’s mission is quite a simple one; to raise money in order to place breast care nurses in all communities across Australia, including rural and regional, while also elevating awareness into the minds of young Australian women.

“The McGrath Foundation put breast care nurses into rural and regional Australia, which is where we live, so women don’t have to travel all the way to the city,” Corowa local and McGrath Foundation fundraiser Kay Blakeley told The Free Press.

Ms Blakeley has for years organised several high teas to raise money and give back to the very organisation that gave aid to her late best friend that succumbed to breast cancer more than a decade ago.

“The purpose of the high tea at the RSL Club is to raise money for the McGrath Foundation. It’s going to be a great day and we’re all there for a great cause,” she said.

“It should be a lot of fun. There’s going to be a fair bit of entertainment, a guest speaker, raffles, auctions and trading tables there to raise money.

“I can’t stress enough that the idea behind this event is to raise money and awareness, hopefully we get a nice turnout of locals to come and support the cause.”

Corowa Curtains and Decor is one local retail store that has thrown every ounce of support behind the McGrath foundation, going over and above to decorate the front of their shop in support of the cause.

“It’s great, just fantastic to walk down the street and see those pink decorations in the window,” Ms Blakeley said.

“We get fantastic support from our local traders, always donating items for the raffles and auctions. They do it every year and their support is always appreciated.

“We always get well in excess of 100 people so hopefully this time around the numbers can again be substantial.”

The high tea kicks off at 2.30pm on Sunday, June 24.

Corowa RSL Club will play host to another high tea on Sunday, June 24 as hundreds of people are expected to be present to raise money for the McGrath Foundation.

Corowa Curtains and Decor have decorated their front window with an inspiring pink display in association with the Jane McGrath Foundation.
