Here’s to an even Betta 10 years

Store Manager Steve Hicks couldn’t have imagined when he started working at the home requirements store eight and a half years ago how it has evolved today.

Once holding only specific furniture-based items in stock, the store has married with the Betta Electrical company and has in effect reeled in further sustained success.

It used to be just furniture, carpet and mattresses, but now there are washing machines, fridges, TVs and plenty more.

Located on 351-355 Honour Avenue in Corowa, the store has developed into a new format that Mr Hicks recalls as a necessary evolution of the business.

“What I’ve like most about working here is all the challenges that we’ve faced,” he told The Free Press.

“Since I started working here, we’ve gone from something I knew which was furniture, bedding and some carpet side, to having to know carpet, electrical, how a dishwasher works … just everything.

“There’s not been a year where we’ve changed and I haven’t learnt something, which has been really enjoyable.”

Mr Hicks said it wasn’t an easy decision at the start to take on the electrical appliances and build a second part of the store, but the positive results have snowballed.

“I’ll tell you straight, we were doing one lounge suite a month when I first started and when we joined forces we were doing five or six a month,” he said.

“I’ll put it down to two things; product and price.

“Obviously we also believe we provide more than exceptional service, we go over and

Corowa Furnishings and Floors and Betta Home Living is saying thanks to its customers as it celebrates 10 successful years of the carpet tile, electrical appliance and retail furniture business.

beyond to satisfy our customers. We know that the customers are important.

“Meeting new people and having great customers has been fantastic as well. Our business has really tried to help support the community.”

Mr Hicks said that getting out to deliveries is also becoming much harder because of the sheer growth of customers, but it’s a “fantastic” problem to have.

“We are now pulling from Albury. We would never have thought we’d sell into Albury. It’s almost to the point where we’re going to Albury once a week with a truckload of furniture,” he said.

The birthday sale is currently on and it lasts until the end of June. It is the biggest sale the store has ever had and people have been flocking through the doors.

Mr Hicks is urging customers to not miss out, with prices going back up in July.

“The sale is a thank you to our customers but stock will not last. The current stock in the store is the 20 per cent off and people are already buying even if it’s not a necessity, because of how cheap it currently is,” he said.

“Prices will all be going up on July 1 so customers will need to get in now.”
