Yanco Creek issue

The Free Press (Corowa) - - FRONT PAGE - BY ROBERT MUIR

Information suggests the implementation of a new regulated weir proposed for the Yanco Creek offtake on the Murrumbidgee, just out of Narrandera, may lead to reduced flows for the Yanco Creek.

“This would likely mean that reduced flows would then occur into the Colombo system,” Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke, in a Mayoral Minute at council’s monthly meeting on August 21, said.

“These creek systems run across and through the north and north western part of the Federation Council area. These systems support important agricultural, environmental and even tourism/recreation pursuits such as skiing and fishing.”

Council will research this issue and lobby with Yanco Creek Tributaries Advisory Council to ensure no detrimental social, economical and environmental impacts occur.
