Under the Local Government Act, Mr Gall’s contract could not be extended without external advertising.

“Mr Gall is welcome to apply for any position following an announcement of the new staff structure,” council’s General Manager Adrian Butler said.

Mr Gall told the Free Press he found his time on council “very interesting”.

“It’s been very interesting, especially with the change of General Manager and the rebuilding of the staff structure making a more resolute organisation,” he said.

“I’ve enjoyed my time, it’s been extremely enjoyable.”

At yesterday’s monthly meeting, council went into closed committee to review its organisation’s structure.

Mr Gall joined Federation Council in June 2017 in a contract capacity.

“Peter has gone on to lead the department and deliver a diverse range of projects, on top of regular service delivery, including heading on any changes over this time, even with a stint as acting General Manager,” Mayor Pat Bourke said.

“Peter is thanked for his services.”

Federation Council’s Director Infrastructure and Environment Peter Gall ceases duty with council on Friday, September 28.
